I have been working in the specialty coffee industry since 2005 when I was barista trained at the Naked Lounge in Sacramento, CA. I worked at multiple cafés in the Northern Bay Area until landing at Flying Goat Coffee in Santa Rosa, CA around 2010. There I was given the opportunity to learn the back end of the coffee business from wholesale and deliveries, to cupping and eventually roasting. In 2014 I decided to move on from the place I was raised and explore the possibilities that Portland had to offer. I was welcomed in by todd and rachael at ole latte and have felt at home ever since. My favorite thing about roasting is discovering a new coffee's true potential. It's easy to slap a generic roast level on a coffee and call it good, but each particular coffee has it's own sweet spot where it really shines and finding that place is the responsibility of the roaster. With all the steps it takes to bring this amazing product to fruition, it would be a shame to sell it short with an uninspired roast when it's so close to reaching it's destination. My favorite coffees tend to come from the birthplace of coffee, Eastern Africa. These coffees generally break the mold for what coffee should taste like, and offer experiences for your taste buds that can't be found anywhere else.
